HISTORY
The long-established company Schake was founded in 1908 by Johann Schake in Wetter-Volmarstein as a blacksmith’s shop specializing in horseshoes and wagons. The company began manufacturing architectural hardware as early as its founding years.
In the 1960s, the first product ideas for what are now the company’s core product lines were developed. At the start of the 2000s, the company continued to grow—four new locations were opened, technology was continuously modernized, and the product range was significantly expanded.
To this day, the company continues to evolve, successfully combining innovation and tradition.
Johann Carl Schake founded a blacksmith shop specializing in horseshoes and wagons in Volmarstein in 1908. Thanks to the high demand at the time for repairs to horses and wagons, he was able to support his family and achieve early success with the family business.
As industrialization increased, the company's core business began to decline. For this reason, the company expanded into accessories for fire hydrants and water pipes.
Through his eldest son, Johannes Alfred Schake.
At the age of 15, he was already working diligently as an apprentice in the company
The product portfolio was tailored to meet the needs of the construction and barrier equipment industries.
Following the untimely death of Johannes Alfret Schake, his wife Luise Schake took over the company along with her three sons.
Through his three sons, Karl Alfred, Johannes Dietrich, and Jürgen Schake. To meet the market’s growing demands, all three completed technical or business training so they could continue to run the company professionally.
With its move to Eckeseyer Str. in Hagen, Schake found a home that remains its base to this day. All administrative tasks are handled here. In addition, part of the production and shipping operations take place here as well.
Water is essential for human survival, which is why we must use it responsibly. Since our production is based on “dry processes,” we see water conservation in our restroom facilities as a key area for improvement.
At the end of 2025, we began installing water-saving faucets and valves in all sinks and showers at our main location. This initiative will be expanded to all locations in the spring of 2026, resulting in a significant reduction in our water consumption.
Through Karl Alfred’s sons—Gerald Alfred and Ralf Schake—who jointly oversee the construction equipment division. And through Jürgen’s sons—Patrick and Marc Thomas Schake—who manage the barrier technology division. Alois Schake has been the first fifth-generation co-managing director since 2022.
An additional production and warehousing facility was opened in the industrial park. Thanks to its proximity to the A1, it offers optimal logistics conditions and was necessary because the existing facility in Hagen has reached its capacity limits due to increasing delivery demands.
