ENVIRONMENT
Environmental and climate protection are key priorities for us. We are committed to promoting sustainable practices and conserving resources. We also aim to ensure transparency regarding the environmental impacts resulting from our business activities.
At Schake, we are aware of the environmental impact of our business activities and are committed to transparency in this regard. For this reason, starting here—for the first time for the year 2024—we will henceforth report our CO2e emissions annually in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
In the first year, these are Scope 1 emissions, that is, direct greenhouse gas emissions from sources owned or controlled by Schake, such as emissions resulting from the combustion of natural gas for our heating systems at our locations, as well as greenhouse gas emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels by our vehicle fleet.
This also includes Scope 2 emissions—that is, emissions generated during the production of the electricity we purchase. Here, we have included market-based emissions, which were calculated based on the emission levels specified in our contracts with our energy provider.
Relevant Scope 3 categories—that is, emissions in the upstream and downstream value chain, which account for the largest portion of our total emissions—will follow for the year 2025.
Note: Since it has not yet been possible to accurately track, for company vehicles that are also used for personal purposes, what proportion of emissions was caused solely by business trips, personal trips are currently included in the calculation.
With the successful certification of all our locations under the globally recognized environmental management standard ISO 14001, we are sending a clear message about our commitment to active environmental protection.
As part of this effort, we have published a corresponding environmental policy. We are committed to the responsible use of resources and to the continuous reduction of our environmental impact. Through environmentally conscious practices, compliance with legal requirements, and the ongoing optimization of our processes, we actively contribute to environmental protection.
A key strategy for reducing our CO2e emissions is the use of renewable energy sources at all our locations. Since early 2025, we have been purchasing green electricity across the board from our local utility provider. This has enabled us to significantly reduce our (market-based) Scope 2 emissions.
Another important step on our sustainability journey is the installation of solar panels on the roofs of the warehouses at our three locations:
- Eckeseyer Str. 195, 58089 Hagen
- Im Werth 9, 58091 Hagen
- Volmarsteiner Str. 48, 58089 Hagen
Planning for this has already been completed, and work will begin in the fall of 2026.
Modern lighting systems with LED lights and motion sensors at all locations
We rely on modern, smart lighting systems at all our locations. By combining efficient LED lights with precise motion sensors, lights are only turned on where they’re actually needed. Compared to conventional light sources, which convert a large portion of the electricity into wasted heat, LEDs reduce our electricity consumption. Furthermore, unlike old fluorescent tubes, LEDs are completely free of toxic mercury.
Use of Induction Energy Instead of Gas for Forging Processes
We use induction energy instead of fossil natural gas for our forging processes. With this modern technology, heat is generated directly within the workpiece via electromagnetic fields, rather than heating the furnace chamber unnecessarily. This saves an enormous amount of energy and conserves valuable resources. By eliminating the use of gas, we also avoid direct on-site CO₂ emissions.
Keeping valuable resources in circulation is a key strategy for protecting the environment, reducing emissions, and thereby slowing climate change. Most Schake products are made of steel and aluminum. These two raw materials can be fully recycled and are therefore ideally suited for keeping in the circular economy. Schake products are designed so that the individual components can be easily separated by material type.
Innovative products from our lineup play a key role in driving the transition toward a more sustainable future—a transition that cannot succeed without a shift in thinking within the transportation sector. The future lies in e-mobility. Our bollards and brackets, specially designed for this purpose, protect charging stations for electric cars.
You can find more information about our EV charging station protectors here.
We also offer employees and visitors to our company the opportunity to charge electric vehicles right on site. To this end, two charging stations have been installed directly at our corporate headquarters in Hagen.
In addition to our traditional bike racks, we are proud to now offer our customers parking solutions specifically designed for e-bikes and e-scooters, featuring built-in outlets and charger holders.

To encourage our employees to use a bicycle or e-bike for their daily commute instead of their own car, we have been offering a discounted lease on a high-quality company bike since early 2023. We partner with dein-jobbike.de for this program.
Water is essential for human survival, which is why we must use it responsibly. Since our production is based on “dry processes,” we see water conservation in our restroom facilities as a key area for improvement.
At the end of 2025, we began installing water-saving faucets and valves in all sinks and showers at our main location. This initiative will be expanded to all locations in the spring of 2026, resulting in a significant reduction in our water consumption.
