Social Responsibility

We place great importance on ethical conduct, both within the company and toward society. We bear a significant social responsibility, which we strive to fulfill in a variety of ways—whether by ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees or through social engagement.

Whether on construction sites or on the road, our products and training programs ensure that people can work safely and arrive safely at their destinations.

Through our specially designed training programs, we provide external participants with the knowledge they need to navigate their daily work with confidence.

This covers the following areas:

  • Occupational Safety
  • Traffic Safety
  • Road and civil engineering

Safety on Construction Sites

Making cities and towns more sustainable often requires appropriate construction measures. To make construction sites safer—both for workers on-site and for passersby—Schake’s wide range of products in this area ensures precisely that level of safety.

Road Safety

As part of the “Vision Zero” initiative, the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transportation (BMDV) has set a goal of reducing the number of traffic fatalities by 40 percent by 2030. The number of people seriously injured in traffic accidents is also to be significantly reduced. Schake’s road safety products contribute to this goal and ensure greater road safety for everyone involved.

For us, this is not just an empty phrase. The goal should be to create an inclusive society in which all people can lead self-determined lives.

Accessibility in everyday life is an important step toward that goal.

We are aware of the challenges and obstacles that people with disabilities or limited mobility face every day. That is why we have developed products—such as our wheelchair ramp—specifically for these situations.

For blind people in particular, it is often difficult in everyday life to recognize the many construction sites in urban areas early on.

That’s why we’ve developed a special safety strip for our barriers.

To ensure an even higher level of safety, we have also developed an acoustic warning system.

Here you'll find our product lineup for an accessible construction site.

Working Together for Biodiversity: Schake Is Now Part of the “Alliance for Biodiversity in the Westphalia Region”

For us at Schake, sustainability also means taking responsibility for our environment. That is why, on June 2, 2026, we officially joined the Alliance for Biodiversity in the Westphalia Region —a strong corporate network and an initiative of the Westphalian Chambers of Industry and Commerce that firmly anchors biodiversity in the economy. Together, we can simply achieve more. This collaboration brings real benefits in terms of new ideas and opportunities: Through our membership, we gain access to valuable expert knowledge and practical guidelines to integrate nature conservation directly into our sites—for example, through nature-oriented landscape design—as well as into our processes. Regular exchanges within the regional network allow us to learn from other companies in a spirit of partnership and to develop sustainable solutions together.

Hagen's "Watering Can Heroes"

Hagen is considered the “greenest major city in North Rhine-Westphalia”; approximately 42 percent of the city’s total area is forested. Against the backdrop of climate change, with long heat waves and droughts, trees play an essential role in maintaining a pleasant climate in the city and enhancing the quality of life for the local population.

To preserve the city’s trees, especially during the hot and dry summer months, it’s important to water them regularly. The “Watering Can Heroes” have dedicated themselves to this important task.

The initiative is already active in several cities in North Rhine-Westphalia and has now launched in Hagen as well. It is a collaboration between the City of Hagen and the local volunteer center and follows this principle:

Collect water when it rains and use it to water trees when it’s too dry.

Our company and our employees are deeply rooted in the region. That’s why it was very important to us to do our part to foster a healthy urban environment. Through our donation of six water tanks, including watering cans, we’re ensuring that our local “Watering Can Heroes” have the tools they need.

On Thursday, October 23, 2025, the big day arrived, and the first “Rain Saver Tank” was ceremoniously handed over in the garden of the Wohlbehagen nursing home in Lukaspark in Hagen,

where it was connected to the downspout and will now collect valuable rainwater that the nursing home’s residents can use to water the greenery around their home.

Also present were the director of the City of Hagen’s Environmental Office, Mr. Köhler, his deputy, Mr. Gockel, and the director of the Volunteer Center, Ms. Krause.

We are always committed to generating added value for people and society, even beyond our core business activities. Below, we would like to provide some insights into the projects we have recently supported.

WASSERVISION – Water Is Life

Water is the world’s most important resource—whether as drinking water, for food production, or for the manufacture of industrial goods. We simply cannot do without it. Building knowledge and raising awareness are essential to addressing current and future challenges related to water. This is especially true in light of the changes—such as floods and droughts—brought about by climate change, as well as the increasing pollution of our water.

To help young people understand the importance of this issue and to highlight comprehensive ways in which we, as a society, can contribute to protecting this precious resource, we made a financial contribution to enable an educational project in November 2024, through which 600 students from the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Hagen to gain important and exciting insights into the topic of water.

Our sustainability manager, Daniel Gutmann, was on site to answer questions and highlight the challenges and requirements associated with water issues from a corporate perspective.
