Environment

Environmental and climate protection are key issues for us. We strive to promote sustainable practices and conserve resources. We also want to create transparency with regard to the environmental impact of our business activities.

At Schake, we are aware of the environmental impact of our business activities and want to create transparency in this regard. For this reason, we will provide the amount of our CO2e emissions according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol here every year from now on, for the first time for the year 2024.

In the first year, these will be Scope 1 emissions, i.e. direct greenhouse gas emissions from sources that Schake owns or controls, such as emissions from the combustion of natural gas for our heating systems at the sites, as well as greenhouse gas emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels in our vehicle fleet.

The same applies to Scope 2, i.e. the emissions caused by the generation of the electricity we purchase. Here we have listed the market-based emissions, i.e. those calculated on the basis of the emissions figures specified in the contracts with our energy provider.

Relevant Scope 3 categories, i.e. emissions in the upstream and downstream value chain, which cause the majority of our total emissions, then follow for the year 2025.

Note: As it was not yet possible to precisely track the proportion of emissions caused purely by business trips for company vehicles that are also used privately, private trips are currently included.

An important lever for reducing our CO2e emissions is the use of renewable energy sources at all our locations.

Since the beginning of 2025, we have been purchasing green electricity from our local electricity supplier across the board. This enables us to significantly reduce our Scope 2 emissions.

Another important step on our sustainability journey is the installation of PV systems on some of our hall roofs. The project will start in spring 2026 at one of our largest sites at Eckeseyer Straße 195.

No matter how environmentally friendly energy is generated, we believe that the best way is still to avoid unnecessary energy consumption and thus keep energy requirements to the minimum possible level.

We achieve this in particular through:

  • Modern lighting systems with LED lights and motion detectors at all locations
  • Raising employee awareness of this issue at
  • Using induction energy instead of gas for forging processes
  • Selecting energy-efficient machines and systems for new purchases

The concept describes the sensible combination of lean production based on the lean management concept with the simultaneous protection of the environment by minimizing the use of resources and avoiding waste. This principle has been firmly anchored in our processes for years. This includes:

-The efficient design and planning of transportation routes. Both at and between our locations, as well as in the upstream and downstream supply chain.

- The minimization of packaging materials. We already try to meet this requirement when designing the packaging. Without compromising on quality.

-Avoiding hazardous substances in our production processes. Our processes are designed in such a way that we largely manage without or with very few potentially hazardous substances.

We are constantly working to reduce chemical additives, for example by using a water-based lacquering process.

- The resource-saving design of production processes. Modern planning programs enable us to keep waste and offcuts to a minimum in the manufacture of our products.

The same is made possible by our modern machinery.

Keeping valuable resources in the cycle is a decisive lever for protecting the environment, reducing emissions and thus slowing down climate change. In addition to the careful separation of unavoidable waste and the resale of valuable waste, excess paint from our coating process, for example, is fed back into the process (post-industrial recycling)

The majority of Schake products are made of steel and aluminum. These two raw materials can be 100% recycled and are therefore predestined to be kept in the cycle.

Schake products are designed in such a way that the individual components can be easily separated by type.

We already have products such as our base plates in our range, which are made from 100 percent recycled materials.

You can find more information about our base plateshere .

Innovative products from our range make an important contribution to promoting the transition to a more sustainable future, which cannot succeed without a rethink in the transport sector. The future lies in e-mobility.

Our specially developed bollards and brackets protect charging points for electric cars.

You can find more information about our e-charging station protection here.

We also offer employees and visitors to our company the opportunity to charge electric vehicles directly on site. For this purpose, two charging stations have been installed directly at our company headquarters in Hagen.

The many new products that we registered in 2024 alone are testament to our immense innovative strength and efforts to create products that offer added value for people and the environment.

In addition to our conventional bike racks, we are now proud to offer our customers parking facilities specially developed for e-bikes and e-scooters with integrated sockets and charger holders.

Click here for our e-bike range and here for our e-scooter products.

To encourage our employees to use a bicycle or e-bike instead of their own car for their daily commute, we have been offering a discounted lease of a high-quality company bike since the beginning of 2023. We work together with dein-jobbike.de for this purpose.

Water is a resource that is essential for human survival, so we need to use it responsibly. As our production is based on "dry processes", we see our leverage here in saving water in our sanitary facilities.

We started installing water-saving taps and valves in all washbasins and showers at our main site at the end of 2025. This will be extended to all locations in spring 2026, leading to a significant reduction in our water consumption.

Protecting the environment is an integral part of our corporate policy. We are committed to the responsible use of resources and the continuous reduction of our environmental impact. We make an active contribution to environmental protection by acting in an environmentally conscious manner, complying with legal requirements and constantly optimizing our processes.
